Marie Elena is a published author and award winning poet. Her poem, Dreaming Back My Sisters, was awarded the 2005 Grand Prize by Embassy Artists International and was chosen for performance at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Marie Elena’s unique combination of poetry, ritual and sacred dance, The Song of the Self Blessing Dance, was performed by Marie Elena at the 2001 Bay Area Author Series, Oakland, California.
Marie Elena is a grant recipient of the Friends of the Library in Pinole, California for her writing workshops with adults. She has taught writing workshops for teens in conjunction with the Friends of the Library in Los Gatos, California, 2002-2004, and was a presenter at the Jack London Writers Camp for Kids at West Valley College in Saratoga, 2001 and 2002.
